Ohio Medical Cannabis Sales Clear $330K In Opening Two Weeks

Through its opening two weeks of medical cannabis sales, Ohio has seen very strong sales figures according to a report from MJ Biz Daily. The Buckeye State saw $330,000 in medical cannabis sales during its first two weeks, including $75,000 on the opening day lone. All sales naturally came from Ohio’s only four medical dispensaries. Ohio’s Medical Marijuana Control Program also reports that the $330,000 was spent on a total of 46 pounds of cannabis, or about $50 for a tenth of an ounce. Additionally, officials expect the cost per ounce to drop as Ohio sees more distributors and cultivators coming online.

Ohio’s Initial Medical Cannabis Sales Are Very Robust

Small sample size disclaimer, but holy geez are Ohio’s sales figures from the opening two weeks remarkable. Even for a state with a population of nearly 12 million, $330,000 in half a month’s span is incredible. For comparison’s sake, Massachusetts and her approximately 6 million residents sold $284,000 in its first month of medical sale back in July of 2015.

Intriguingly, only flower/plant materials for vaping are available for sale, as rendering facilities are not yet available and smoking medical ganj is verboten under Ohio laws.

Ohio’s Early Success Is Another Strong Indicator of Midwest’s Cannabis Potential

Ohio represents a golden opportunity for the medical cannabis industry. But beyond that, it’s another signal of the strong market potential in the Midwest. With Michigan open for adult-use cannabis, and with states such as MissouriIllinois, and Minnesota weighing their legalization options, the Midwest is emerging as something of a sleeper from a regional standpoint. With so many eyes glued to developments along the East Coast, its crucial for would-be canna-preneurs and investors alike to not overlook the potential that states in the Midwest have to offer.
